![]() ![]() I absolutely do not believe that most of these reviewers actually played Burning Noise, but instead probably saw a two-minute kissing scene on Twitter and went nuts about it. ![]() I’ve seen fans at least occasionally hide their hatred of sports politics by trying to say that the sport itself is bad (even though it isn’t), but here we’re just seeing… unbridled homophobia. And if they did delete some of the hateful comments, they certainly left a lot of them in place for a very long time. And these are literally the top featured reviews! While the removal of this comment may be considered a violation of “freedom of speech”, Metacritic is a private entity like all websites and can do whatever they want. I could go on, and on, and on, but you get the idea. While I’m not going to post the comments in full, the “Most Helpful” comments listed under User Reviews currently contain the following phrases for Burning Shores: And while there may be some amount of moderation, certainly not enough. Even though it was already established that Aloy’s genetic ancestor Elisabet was a lesbian, this reveal still managed to surprise some “fans”, who believe it marks the first time for PlayStation to cast its second leading lady as a lesbian. The point at issue here is (spoilers for Burning Shores follow) that Aloy finally finds a romance, and can share a kiss with another woman, Seika. ![]() While sometimes, a user score is a good indicator of a game being technically broken and upset players register their anger in this way, very often it is due to some specific “political” aspect of a game. The game this time around is Horizon Forbidden West, the new Burning Shores DLC, with an 81 score from two dozen critics. Rather than write yet another article about reviews being bombarded on Metacritic, I wanted to write about how something really needs to be done to better prevent this problem, which even after all this time manages to be funny. ![]()
